Sometimes organizations print different kinds of documents and then bundle them together manually before delivering them to the final destination. At times organizations print super-sized reports and then separate them by hand before delivering them to the people who need the information. Meanwhile, some organizations manually burst and bundle documents to create a more usable package for their users. By the end of the day, these efforts waste reams of paper and leave employees with an assortment of paper cuts. If this sounds familiar, remember that the year is 2009 and you don’t have to do it anymore!
Barr EOM can help you automate these manual business processes thus freeing up time so your employees can focus on more important projects. We call these features Bursting and Bundling. You may want to take advantage of either one or both depending on your workflow. Before we explore bursting and bundling, we’d like to emphasize that in many cases, implementing these features does not require changes to the legacy systems or applications. This concept is so important, that we feel compelled to say it twice – in most cases you can implement automated bursting and bundling without changing your legacy applications. Okay, let’s delve into these two features.
Bursting divides a large document or print job into smaller documents based on information found in the data such as an account number or department code.

Instead of the manual process of reading a long printed report; locating the marker that identifies a separation; and building stacks of paper; Barr EOM does the processing before the report is ever printed. For example, if the original document included invoices for 1,000 clients, the result of this bursting action would be 1,000 small documents, each named according to the respective account number, ready to distribute to each client.
If you receive and print mainframe jobs, you will notice that many of them contain multiple reports per job. In this case, Barr EOM separates them into individual reports every time a new report number or name is encountered either in the data header or on the report itself.
Bundling merges multiple documents into one larger print job.

Bundling is useful in situations when you need to send a set of different reports or documents to a single location based upon matching criteria. As the various software applications generate these reports, Barr EOM captures them and combines them into one document. The original file type/format of these documents does not matter. For example, if you need to bundle AFP and PCL jobs together, Barr EOM can do that for you and produce any type of file you may require. The AFP and PCL jobs could be bundled together and Barr EOM could output AFP, PCL and PDF copies of the new bundled document.
Often, Bursting and Bundling are used together. Think of all the situations where you split up several different documents by hand and recombine them into new packages. Barr EOM can automatically burst these documents and then merge the desired parts and pieces into new documents. These newly created reports are then ready to print on any type of printer in your organization, to email, to post to the web, or to send to your archive systems. It is time for you to automate your manual processes. Start saving time and use less paper.
