Barr Systems Introduces EE LinkGainesville, Fla.- Barr Systems, Inc. announces a way for customers to eliminate their SNA networks while maintaining their SNA applications on the host. Now BARR/NJE or BARR/RJE can connect to an IBM mainframe over an IP network, without the need for any special routers or gateways. The communications link works by connecting BARR/RJE and BARR/NJE to the mainframe via IBM's Enterprise Extender, a strategic approach to integrating SNA applications into IP networking. Enterprise Extender provides APPN High-Performance Routing (HPR) functionality, giving host applications the benefits of both APPN and IP connectivity. Making the switch from SNA to IP-connected RJE applications is easy. A simple change in the communications link means a change to existing RJE definitions is not needed to connect your mainframe with BARR/RJE via IP. The process is similar to defining any other link type, such as SDLC or 802.2. Depending on the customer’s current configuration, elimination of a wide variety of equipment, expenses, and headaches is possible with RJE/IP.
